Coronavirus Update: CDC urges Americans to get updated COVID booster
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its COVID-19 incidence and mortality report for vaccinated and unvaccinated people and urged everyone to get the bivalent booster if they haven’t already.
People who received the booster were 14 times less likely to die from COVID than people who were unvaccinated and three times less likely to die than those who only got the original COVID-19 vaccines. Meanwhile, the seven-day average of new COVID cases in the U.S. was 39,918 on Thursday, the fourth straight day below the 40,000 mark, according to a New York Times Tracker. The daily average has declined 14% from two weeks ago.
Globally, there have been 672.61 million COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, and 6,852,226 people have died, according to data provided by Johns Hopkins University. In the U.S., there have been a total of 102.83 million cases and 1,114,258 deaths.
