Some Franklin County homeowners say the proposed Columbus City Schools levy is forcing them to choose between public education and keeping their homes.

A campaign sign for the CCS levy outside a school property in Columbus, Ohio. Earlier this year, the Columbus City Schools Board of Education voted to proceed with a nearly $100 million annual levy on the November ballot. It's a combined 7.7-mill levy -- 4.7 mill Permanent Improvement Levy and a 3.0 mill Operating Levy -- for the Nov. 7, 2023, ballot.leaders say the polling for their operating and permanent improvements levy suggests a tight battle at the ballot box next month.

"This is a levy. This is a property tax. This is the way in the state of Ohio all public schools are funded," Columbus City Schools Board of Education President Jennifer Adair told ABC6 On Your Side Problem Solvers this week. We know our community wants our outcomes to improve. They want to see more stars on that report card. That will not happen, that will not happen if this does not pass.CCS wants to collect $100 million a year with the new levy and dedicate $60 million of it to facility maintenance. This comes after several study groups have concluded the district has too many buildings for a declining student population since 2018.
