The head of WA's Corruption and Crime Commission tells a parliamentary committee it was 'disappointing' to see police drop hundreds of charges against the alleged accomplice of a public servant who defrauded taxpayers of $22 million.
But he did not repeat those comments when speaking outside the hearing, insisting the situation was an "aberration" rather than a sign of systemic issues.
The CCC's legal service director, Kirsten Nelson, told the committee a cooperative agreement was reached with police in late October of 2019 to work together on their "separate but parallel" investigations into Whyte and Mr Anthonisz. But the committee heard that a month later, WA Police asked the CCC to stop sharing evidence with them out of fears it could affect the admissibility of other information – a request the CCC said it complied with.
