Reporter chronicles what it's like to fly in an F-18F Super Hornet with one of the best pilots on Earth.
It will be their first performance there in four years, so the pilots are ready. So was CBS2's John Dias, who took off with the famed flight demonstration squadron to give viewers a closer look at what it looks like from above.
"We will fly pretty close to airliner speeds, but what we do a little differently is we fly it low and in formation," Lt. Griffin Stangel said."An F-18F Super Hornet, two-seat variant," Stangel said.But before Dias and Kuncham were even allowed climb inside the aircraft, they had to go through safety training, as in learning how to position their bodies for G-forces and and executing proper breathing techniques.Then, it was time to suit up.
Kuncham was nominated and won the Key Influencer Award for his hard work in the community and was grateful this ride was the trophy.CBS2 reporter John Dias took the ride of his life on May 27, 2022, soaring high above the Tri-State Area in an F-18 Super Hornet with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.Soon after, Dias was up. He got strapped in, ran through more safety rules, and, eventually, was ready to rock 'n roll.
Within seconds, Dias and his pilot were already in the clouds. Soon after, they cleared them, and that's when the real fun began. They did lots of rolls and a couple of thrilling loops.
