Senator Alan Peter Cayetano expressed his approval of the new Senate Resolution seeking continued dialogues with China to resolve the two countries’ dispute over the West Philippine Sea.
“Dialogues [with China] should always be there. We never hate our enemies because kapag naging emotional, baka ikaw ang magkamali samantalang klaro ang pag-iisip ng enemy mo,” Cayetano said in a manifestation during plenary session on August 1, 2023.
Cayetano said the new resolution, which also takes into consideration PSR 718 filed by Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, is not a “watered-down” version but rather a “stronger” one. “Hindi naman tayo magsusunud-sunuran lang sa gusto ng China, pero it would also be foolish not to study history, the temperaments and actions, and especially the security concerns of superpowers,” he said.
