“I started at the Hall of Fame as a volunteer back in 2004. I just wanted to talk hockey with other fans. As time went on, a few months later I started working part-time hours on weekends, eventually traveling and going around with different trophies and artifact displays. Then in 2009, I got asked to start traveling with the Cup.
“What the players like to do is take it to their hometowns — somewhere where it’s familiar for them, and they like to show it off to the community. They try to be creative with some of the things they’d like to do. So they’ll drink out of it, eat out of it. I’ve seen anything from pierogies to poutine, chicken wings, cereal, ice cream, Jell-O and caviar — you name it, it’s been in the bowl.
“My favorite country — I really like Sweden. I’ve probably been to more cities in Sweden than any other country. Everywhere you go is different but the people are the same. Hockey fans are everywhere.”“A little bit. Usually that happens at a certain time of night after they’ve been drinking with their buddies.“But the players are careful with it. They’re respectful. They don’t want to have their name associated with any kind of damage to it. It’s not just a trophy. It’s a historical artifact.
