Mid Valley fire believed to have been started by overheating cooling oil, says Bomba
City Fire and Rescue Department assistant director M Fatta M Amin said that based on initial checks, 12,400l of cooling oil was being used to cool the transformer.
The flash point of transformer oil is the temperature at which the oil releases enough vapours to produce a flammable mixture with the air. "We also had to use defensive methods to ensure that the other substations in the building did not catch fire as well," he said. Meanwhile, Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Amihizam Abdul Shukor said initially the fire had caused power outages in nearby areas.
