IT WAS a disappointing ending to what could have been an epic scheduled 10-round bout between three-division world champion Johnriel Casimero and former world titleholder Yukinori Oguni on Oct. 12, 2023 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. The fight ended in a fourth round technical draw after an accidental clash of heads stopped the bout prematurely. The 34-year-old Casimero was very aggressive in the opening round and landed a right straight that backed up Oguni.
After three rounds, Casimero was ahead in two of the three judges’ score cards: 29-28, 29-28 and 28-29. However, the scorecards didn’t matter because the fight didn’t get past the fourth round. If the fight went past the fourth round, it would’ve gone to the scorecards.Casimero had the first draw of his career and is now 33-4-1 with 22 knockouts, while Oguni, who was away from the ring for over a year, is now 21-2-3 with eight knockouts.
