“Schools aren’t safe anymore,” Astudillo said. “I don’t want anyone to go through what I’m going through.” Dawn Parnell, a spokeswoman for the district, said an email was sent to all parents on Oct. 31 last year “alerting them to the threat of fentanyl” — a synthetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine.
