Trailing by 13 in the fourth quarter, Acalanes comes back to tie Carondelet but falls short in the end.

CONCORD — Carondelet High was finally in cruise control with a 13-point fourth-quarter lead against an Acalanes team that simply wouldn’t go away. The Cougars, the fourth seed in the North Coast Section open division girls tournament, were up 60-47 with 5:46 to play on Jamie Kent’s 3-point basket. Acalanes, seeded fifth, was far from done.

“They clutched up late and hit shots and we got a little confused on our assignments,” Carondelet coach Kelly Sopak said. “It was Layla Dixon’s first start tonight and she delivered.” Acalanes put up a good fight despite missing Natalie Lyons, who was out with concussion symptoms, and losing Alexis Le after a sideline collision in the third quarter.
