Carlos Ghosn accuses Nissan of conspiracy and 'backstabbing' in a new video

A video of Carlos Ghosn, former chairman of Nissan Motor Co., is projected on a screen during a news conference at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan in Tokyo, Japan, on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Kiyoshi Ota/BloombergCarlos Ghosn, Nissan Motor Co.’s former chairman and architect of its alliance with Renault SA, accused Nissan management of “backstabbing” and a conspiracy that led to his arrest and ouster, in a video recorded a day before his second arrest last Thursday.

Specifically, prosecutors say he used Nissan funds to buy a yacht and to invest in a San Francisco startup begun by his son. At the core of the dispute is the future direction of the two-decade alliance between Nissan and Renault, which owns 43% of the Japanese automaker. “This is not about greed. This is not about dictatorship, Ghosn said. “This is about a plot. this is about conspiracy. This is about back-stabbing.”

Ghosn's wife, Carole, fled Japan last week for Paris, telling a French reporter that she felt she was in danger after Japanese authorities confiscated her Lebanese passport.
