Captain America #1 is a Back-To-Basics Character Study for Steve Rogers Straczynski and Saiz's story sees Steve Rogers get into the real estate game after the apartment building his parents once lived in goes on sale. Captain America begins repairing the worn and aged building, thinking back to the time when he was evicted as a young man after his mother died.
Captain America #1 has plenty of action. From the opening scene to Cap's brief foray with the Fantastic Four in the Microverse to one horrifying scene set in South America, Saiz gets to show off the dynamic skills he brings to the table. But most of the first issue is a laid-back exploration of Steve Rogers and the kind of person he is.
Steve Rogers' Inner Character is the Real Star of Captain America #1 Fans may have been hoping for something a little more action-packed for the opening salvo of a new Captain America comic. And while there are some interesting action scenes, the true strength of this book is the insight it provides into Steve Rogers' character.
