That smoke may simply be above the ground. In that case, you'll notice a hazy, milky-white sky during the day, and rather stunning pink sunsets and sunrises. If you're into stargazing, that smoke may periodically blot out views of the night sky, if it's dense enough.
So don't automatically assume as cooler temperatures and lower humidity set in that it's a good idea to open windows and go on that walk or jog.first. If you notice the term "PM2.5" mentioned in your air quality forecast, that means particulate matter from smoke is in the air, the type of particles that can lodge deep into your lungs.
In theory, that could happen if a persistently wet pattern settles into areas plagued by fires. But that's hard to do in summer in Canada, where precipitation more often occurs astypically left to burn if they’re not affecting property
