TACLOBAN CITY – The local government of Can-avid, Eastern Samar has been placed under a state of calamity due to heavy rains and severe flooding caused by the Low Pressure Area and shear line.
The Sangguniang Bayan, in a special session on Tuesday, January 12, passed Resolution No. 101 series of 2023 to expedite the release of a portion of their calamity fund to extend immediate assistance to affected families. Over 27,000 families or 90 thousand individuals are reportedly affected in Eastern Samar due to bad weather, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Over 15,000 individuals of these affected families are temporarily taking shelter in evacuation centers.Meanwhile, the body of Winefreda Grafil from Borongan City has been recovered in Brgy. Maybocog, Maydolong, while her husband, Carlito Dagumay, 73, remains missing. The couple was on a boat that capsized in a river late in the afternoon on Tuesday in Brgy. Pinanag-an, Borongan City.Wright-Taft Road remains unpassable to all types of vehicles due to flooding and in anticipation of possible landslides, as well as Brgy. Bigo, Arteche to Jipapad town.
