Tavien St. Clair stands alone for now in the 2025 class for Ohio State.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Morgan Fultz was in her first summer as the strength and conditioning coach at Bellefontaine High School, so she had to introduce herself to the Chieftain football team.
Some assistant coaches quickly came inside to alert Brown of what was happening out on the field, and to pull him outside so he could see.St. Clair joined the program two years later and split time with a sophomore during his first season of high school football. After that freshman year, the first college that showed up to talk to St. Clair about his first-year film was Ohio State. Then, the dream became real.
“There’s not a throw he can’t make,” Brown said. “I mean, his ability to throw the ball and push the ball downfield is something we’ve never seen before. His ability to throw the ball with accuracy at all levels of the field is something we’ve never seen before. His ability to run the offense, basically drive the bus, see the defense, know what the defense has given us and make good decisions.
St. Clair and his family had a southern trip planned for the summer to visit schools, as the Ohio State recruitment was a bit slower than with some other schools. But he credits a conversation with himself, his mom and coach Ryan Day as the final, clinching decision that Columbus was the place for him.
“I mean, we’ve had great players that have been great young men, but they’ve been more MAC-level players,” Brown said. “They haven’t been Big 10-type players, certainly not the caliber of Big 10 that Ohio State is. The quarterback coaching and quarterback play is elite as you can get in this country. And when you have someone that’s going to be basically welcomed into that brotherhood and that club, we’ve had no one that can match.
