A late goal by Eimear McGrath secures victory over All-Ireland champions Cork

Tipperary’s Eimear McGrath celebrates scoring a goal with team-mate Caoimhe Perdue during the Very Camogie League Division 1A match against Cork at Páirc Uí Rinn. Photograph: Laszlo Geczo/InphoDivision 1A of the Very Camogie League is headed for a pulsating conclusion, with weekend results leaving four teams level at the top separated only by score difference with two rounds remaining.

It was an impressive effort from the Premier County, who have bounced back well from an opening round defeat to Waterford with two major scalps. They led by 0-6 to 0-3 at the end of a first half in which defences dominated but disaster struck two minutes after the restart when goalie Nicole Walsh fumbled O’Connor’s attempt at a point just over her line.

A young Clare side were competitive in the first half against Waterford, and even when Mairead O’Brien flicked astutely to the net after six minutes, they consolidated thanks to points from Caoimhe Cahill and Róisín Begley. Galway and Kilkenny were inseparable at the end of a cagey first half at 0-4 each, but a scoring blitz that yielded a goal and five points without reply decided the contest.
