More than 1,000 foreigners, mostly Chinese nationals, have been detained by Cambodian authorities following a tip by South Korean media that probed complaints of its citizens being tricked and trafficked into scam compounds.Foreign nationals are pictured detained inside one of Cambodia’s three immigration detention facilities in this undated picture.
It quoted police spokesperson Chhay Kim Khoeun as saying the operation was launched after a report regarding labor exploitation was received. Initial operations were based out of the southern port city of Sihanoukville, but in recent years have fanned out across the country and spread to Myanmar, Laos and elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
