Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has been called on to overturn his “appalling” decision to make an injecting room permanent, as nearby children are exposed to drug users “running around naked” and breaking into school grounds.
On Tuesday, Mr Andrews confirmed the North Richmond facility, that opened in 2018, would become a permanent fixture after positive findings from an independent review.
Local resident Sharon Neven told Sky News Australia children at the local school were already well-versed in lockdown procedures after drug users had broken into the premise on several occasions. “It’s all about the safety of the children, it’s all about the safety of the community and it seems like we don’t matter."And a second injecting facility could pop up in the Melbourne CBD.
He also slammed Mr Andrews for his “appalling decision” in approving the permanent facility in North Richmond and urged him to change his mind.
