A California woman was wounded while swimming in Hawaii on Sunday by an endangered monk seal who was protecting her pup, officials said.

The video also shows that the seal was with her pup.
The incident occurred before lifeguards were on duty and 10 swimmers including the woman were in the water when the seal attacked, officials said. The woman's husband told the department that people on the beach were screaming at swimmers to get out of the water but she had a swim cap on and her head was in the water so she didn't hear. She eventually heard people screaming and started swimming away from the seals, he said, but it was too late.
