California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Friday the state will require all students in K-12 schools to get vaccinated against Covid-19 once the vaccines are given full approval for use in children under the age of 16 by the Food and Drug Administration , making it the first state to do so.... [+]

Gavin Newsom announced that California will become the first state in the nation to mandate students to have a COVID-19 vaccination in order to attend in person classes. The mandate will go into effect at all private and public schools in the state when the FDA approves the vaccinations for students age and grade level.

Once the FDA fully approves Covid-19 vaccinations for children ages 12 through 15 the state will require students between seventh and 12th grade get vaccinated, and after the vaccine is approved for ages 5 through 11 it will be required for Kindergarten through sixth grade. The governor’s office said the mandate could take effect as early as January, but estimates it will be put in place at the start of the 2022-2023 school year,
