California treasurer Fiona Ma on plans for her second term, the controversies of her first [Opinion]
California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, a Democrat who has long been involved in state politics, was elected to her current position in 2018 and is now seeking re-election.
The former assemblymember from San Francisco met with The San Diego Union-Tribune Editorial Board on May 24 ahead of the June 7 primary election to discuss several controversies that have embroiled her first term, including a sexual harassment allegation against her by a former aide, her priorities for a second term, the status of state employee and teacher pension programs, the CalSavers retirement savings program, the state’s housing crisis, its cannabis regulations and more.
