With the new year around the corner, new public traffic safety laws are set to take effect Jan. 1.
The California Highway Patrol is working to educate the public about these new laws that were passed during this year’s legislative session and signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom.This law removes the requirement that peace officers must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States, but still maintains that they be legally authorized to work in the United States, consistent with federal law and regulations.
The new “Feather Alert” allows law enforcement agencies to request the CHP to initiate an alert when an indigenous person has been kidnapped, abducted or reported missing under unexplained or suspicious circumstances, and specific criteria has been met to permit alert activation.
