Investigators from the California Attorney General's Office are gathering information from parents about the school mergers, consolidations and closures that the Oakland Unified School District Board approved back in February.

The State attorney general's office is taking a closer look at the closures and mergers of several public schools in Oakland, many in communities of color.The California Department of Justice is probing the Oakland Unified School District over potential violations of student's civil rights, amid school closures and mergers.two schools and is set to close at least five others by the end of next school year.

Many parents and teachers have long said that the district has targeted schools in low income communities and communities of color.
