Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa announced that he will enter the 2020 NFL draft despite suffering a hip injury in November that ended his college career
and cohort Todd McShay slots Tagovailoa at No. 12.
“Tua has probably had as much of an impact on our program here as any player that we’ve ever had, and I’m not just talking about as a football player,” Saban said Monday. “He’s got great character, he’s a great leader, he’s done a wonderful job in the classroom. There’s a spirit about him that has impacted myself and everybody around him in a very, very positive way.”
Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith was well on his way to becoming a top-five pick in 2015 when he tore multiple knee ligaments during the Fiesta Bowl, resulting in nerve damage that threatened his football future. Smith slid to Dallas’ No. 34 overall pick in the 2016 draft and sat out that entire season before entering the Cowboys’ lineup the following year. Jerry Jones & Co.’s risk paid off, however, as Smith totaled 120-plus tackles and started every game in each of the last two seasons..
Should their early projections hold, Tagovailoa and wide receiver Jerry Jeudy should be the top prizes in yet another loaded Alabama draft class.
