“The margin is only 2.8 per cent, and it got smaller at the last election – that was part of the pressure on Alan Tudge at the election,” he told commentator Steve Price. “If the Liberal Party is to show that it has heard some of the messages and learnt some of the lessons given to it by the electorate at the last election where we did lose comprehensively, then we need to make sure that we increase the diversity of candidates that we have,” he said.
