KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Public Works Department (JKR) has been ordered to place speed limit signs on flyover pillars following Friday's (Aug 5) tragic accident at the Lintas Plaza flyover here.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the speed limit has been set at 70kph in the area, and motorists must be reminded not to exceed it.
Speaking to reporters on Monday after inspecting the scene of the tragic accident that killed a father and his two children and left a nephew critically injured, Bung Moktar said motorists must realise the risks of speeding."We have to remind motorists to keep to the speed limit and I asked JKR to put up the speed limit for motorists," he said.Bung Moktar, who is also state Works Minister, said a report on the cause of the accident would be made available to the public soon.
"I am satisfied with the explanation from the Sabah JKR director that this road was built based on the procedures and criteria it set, road safety audit. This road meets specifications," he said.Jimmykal Jaujali Assam, the 44-year-old driver of a four-wheel drive vehicle, his daughter Sazfa, 11, and son Alkail, 16, were killed on the spot while his four-year-old nephew remains in critical condition at the Likas Women and Children's Hospital.
Kota Kinabalu City police chief Asst Comm Zaidi Abdullah said initial investigations indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle before slamming into a flyover pillar.
