Museum curator Andik Husni Andik Abdul Latif, 60, said she took over the job of managing the museum after her husband, Abdullah Ahmad, 76, passed away in November last year.“We want to set up an outlet offering authentic Bugis food.

“This way, visitors not only get to experience Bugis culture, artefacts, pictures but its food as well. “Bugis food is popular in Johor as some people here share the same heritage and culture but these days, the food is only available during festive seasons, ” said Andik Husni, adding some of these included dishes such as burasak, ayam liku, dange, pulut kuning and lempeng-lempeng.She said more people were now visiting the museum that reopened on July 10.

The premises set up over four decades ago was closed when the movement control order was imposed on March 18.“Visitors included students doing research on Bugis culture and heritage.“Most were collected by my late husband and me in our younger days, ” she said.“Visitors get to see Bugis traditional clothing like the baju tokko on display and marriage ceremony here.It has been working closely with the National Museum and the Johor Heritage Foundation to offer a place of interest to the public.

Admission to the Bugis Museum is free. It is open daily from 9.30am to 5pm, except on Hari Raya Haji and Hari Raya Puasa.
