Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has returned to the team’s facility on an “almost daily” fashion, coach Sean McDermott said on Wednesday.
Hamlin, a 24-year-old safety from Pittsburgh, first visited the Bills facility in Orchard Park, New York last Saturday. He was expected to attend Buffalo’s playoff win against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, but instead watched from home.Hamlin was hospitalized at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was sedated for two days before being awakened on Jan. 4.
Two days later, he began breathing on his own, and walking around the intensive care unit at the medical facility. He was released on Jan. 9, when he flew home to Buffalo and spent two days at the Buffalo General Medical Center.Asked about the emotional state of the Bills franchise after Hamlin’s recovery, McDermott said he believes his players “are in a good spot.”
“As he continues to improve, I think that certainly helps,” McDermott said. “That experience, we’ll carry that with us. And there’s a challenge to that, but there’s also a lot of good that came from that. And I think right now we need to focus on the positive and the positives that came out of that as opposed to the other piece of it right now.”“I think just as a world.
“I’m 48 years old. I shared this story with my kids on the Sunday after the New England game, because that’s when I had a chance to slow down. When you can go through your life 48 years and not really have an experience like that – and then that happens – you know that God’s real, and that there’s power in prayer, and miracles do happen.”
The Bills will host the Bengals on Sunday at 3 p.m., where the winner will advance to the AFC championship game against the winner of Saturday’s game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs.
