Devin Willock and staff member Chandler LeCroy were killed. Another member of the staff was injured along with former Brunswick High School football standout Warren McClendon.
The crash happened early Sunday morning just hours after the team’s national championship celebration in Athens.
“We are all heartbroken and devastated with the loss of Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy. Devin was an outstanding young man in every way and was always smiling. He was a great teammate and a joy to coach. Chandler was a valuable member of our football staff and brought an incredible attitude and energy every single day. We grieve with their families for this tragic loss and will support them in every way possible,” head coach Kirby Smart said in a statement.
Chapple said right now she is hoping for a safe and speedy recovery for McClendon who is an offensive lineman at the University of Georgia. That description was echoed by McClendon’s former football coach at Brunswick High School, Sean Pender.
