Kerajaan Brunei juga menetapkan hukuman potong tangan dan kaki bagi kesalahan mencuri mulai 3 April ini.
Amnesty International menggesa Brunei ‘menghentikan segera’ pelaksanaan hukuman rejam sampai mati terhadap pesalah zina dan hubungan sejenis.
Negara kesultanan kecil itu akan melaksanakan kanun keseksaan baru yang tegas, yang turut menetapkan hukuman potong tangan dan kaki bagi kesalahan mencuri mulai Rabu depan. Penalti baru bagi kesalahan mencuri adalah potong tangan kanan untuk kesalahan pertama, dan kaki kiri bagi kesalahan ke-2.“Untuk menghalalkan hukuman kejam dan tidak berperikemanusiaan ini amat mengejutkan,” kata penyelidik Brunei, Rachel Chhoa-Howard dalam satu kenyataan.
