CLEVELAND — Browns kicker Dustin Hopkins helped the team get the win over the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, scoring 13 of Cleveland's 19 points—and he's been given a league award for the performance.
Hopkins has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for games played Oct. 12 through Oct. 16. In Sunday's game against the 49ers, Hopkins was 4-for-5 on his field goal attempts, missing a 47-yard attempt early but responding strongly by making his next four, one from 42, one from 46, his game long of 50 and the go-ahead 29-yard field goal that ultimately gave the Browns the win.
Hopkins made that final field goal to give the Browns the lead with less than two minutes left, winning after the 49ers drove down the field and their kicker, Jake Moody, missed wide right from 41 yards out with six seconds left on the clock. The Browns traded for Hopkins just before the season began, looking to bring some proven consistency into the room. Five games in and Hopkins is 12-for-14 on field goal attempts and 5-for-5 on his extra points, Hopkins has so far done just that. The recent accolade of AFC Special Teams Player of the Week is just further proof of his success.
