Read it again: The Broncos’ franchise will be playing their second regular season game outside the United States
The Russell Wilson Effect is helping send the Broncos abroad to play a regular-season game for the first time in 12 years.
“Broncos Country is everywhere and the best way to grow our game — and reach fans all over the world — is by playing internationally,” Paton said. The Broncos are likely to request an Oct. 23 home game to ease some of the logistical stress of traveling to England to play the Jaguars. Teams are generally given the option of taking their bye week after an international game.
The Broncos will play overseas for the second time in the regular season. In October 2010, the Broncos lost 24-16 to San Francisco, a trip lowlighted by the NFL later fining the Broncos and then-coach Josh McDaniels $50,000 and firing director of video operations Steve Scarnecchia when it was determined Scarnecchia videotaped six minutes of the 49ers’ walk-through practice at Wembley.
