GEORGE TOWN:

Day in, day out, a group of Penang Island City Council workers have been toiling at “3D” jobs – dangerous, dirty and difficult – to keep the city clean. On Tuesday, a briyani restaurant in Little India here treated them to its trademark Dindigul briyani rice in conjunction with Labour Day. Bite ‘N’ Eat Sdn Bhd partner J. Kapil Kumar said he noticed the workers on the job from dawn to dusk keeping the streets clean.“By keeping the area clean all day long also helps in bringing in the customers.

“We thought to show our appreciation by treating them to a briyani dinner at our restaurant,” he said. Thirty-one MBPP workers turned up for the dinner while another 30 could not make it but the restaurant packed similar dishes for them.MBPP Urban Services Department director Mubarak Junus thanked the restaurant for its kind gesture and hoped there would be more such events by private companies as part of their corporate social responsibility.
