Britney Spears says she will be “celebrating my freedom and my B day for the next two months,” explaining, “After 13 years … I think I’ve waited long ENOUGH”
Photo: Gabe Ginsberg/Getty Images Last Friday, Judge Brenda J. Penny ruled to end the conservatorship that has controlled nearly every aspect of Britney Spears’s life for the past 13 years. Following the momentous decision, Spears posted a video to her Instagram of the #FreeBritney crowd outside the courthouse, calling Friday “the best day ever.” Her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, addressed the crowd: “Britney, as of today, is a free woman, and she’s an independent woman,” he said.
Since her explosive testimony in June, Britney has been increasingly vocal about her desire to get out of the conservatorship, telling Judge Penny, “All I want is to own my money, for this to end, and my boyfriend to drive me in his fucking car.” On Monday, Britney posted on Instagram for the first time since Friday’s ruling, posting a photo of a fork driving through a tube of lipstick.
While Britney is celebrating, the fallout from the conservatorship may not yet be over. A court hearing is set for December to resolve outstanding financial issues, and Rosengart has also called to investigate Jamie Spears, who oversaw Britney’s personal life and finances for more than a decade. It’s a call Britney has echoed. In her testimony from the summer, she asserted that Jamie and anyone involved in her conservatorship “should be in jail.
