The bridge linking South Bank to Queen’s Wharf will partially open to 500 pedestrians next weekend amid assurances it will open permanently in April.

Part of Brisbane’s new Neville Bonner Bridge between Queen’s Wharf and South Bank will be temporarily opened to 500 lucky pedestrians next weekend amid assurances it will be opened permanently in April.

The Neville Bonner Bridge connects South Bank to level four of the Queen’s Wharf development. Levels five and six will be the gaming floors.“[The bridge] lands in a construction site at the moment, so we wouldn’t be able to have people get off it,” he said. When questioned about the delays, Cooke said the complex was incredibly large.

Cooke would not be drawn on ongoing claims and counter claims – worth more than a fifth of the project’s cost – between the Destination Brisbane Consortium and Queen’s Wharf builder Multiplex in the Supreme Court.“It’s a matter that has been in dispute for the past two years,” he said on Sunday. “The actual proceedings are separate from the construction job, and the whole team is working 100 per cent to deliver Queen’s Wharf on schedule in April next year.”
