Australia’s aviation watchdog has criticised Singapore Airlines and on-duty ground crew for lax pre-departure safety checks at Brisbane Airport, in a report released almost two years after a plane nearly took off with vital airspeed monitors covered up.when he noticed the sensors still had their covers attached as Singapore Airlines flight 256, bound for Changi Airport, was about to be pushed back from the international terminal on May 27, 2022.
“It was established from closed-circuit television footage of Singapore Airlines turnarounds at Brisbane Airport that the majority of flight crew pre-flight inspections observed around the time of this occurrence were truncated and not undertaken in accordance with company procedures,” the report found.Brisbane Airport
“ workforce was significantly reduced, and the remaining engineering staff had their hours decreased considerably,” the report found. In addition, a final walk-around of the aircraft – “the last procedural opportunity to identify that the covers had not been removed” – was not conducted.“This serves as a reminder that all line personnel have a safety role and should always speak up if they see or feel that something is not right,” the ATSB said in the report.
Doherty said the airport’s efforts to eradicate the wasps from the airport precinct had attracted national and international recognition.
