Bridgeland's Brooke Hensley makes a pass during the first half of the Region II-6A girls soccer championship at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex, Saturday, April 8, 2023, in Austin.AUSTIN — It wasn’t an ideal start for Bridgeland in the Region II-6A championship. And Wylie East took advantage immediately.

After Robinson was assisted off the field, Wylie East, a team that came into the game with a plus-150 goal differential, scored in the fifth minute and again in the tenth. “Obviously, our goal scorer gets fouled really bad in the first couple minutes, that’s going to hurt us,” Bridgeland coach Katie Bourgeois said.

“I’m so proud of this group,” Bourgeois said. “I’m not going to talk about this game. I just want to talk about what they’ve been through. They went from zero playoff wins to being one win away from state. I don’t care about the first half of this game. I care about the second half fight that my girls showed. They deserved to be here.Wylie East will make its second-ever trip to the state tournament on Friday at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown.
