South Africa is the host nation for the 15th annual BRICS summit taking place from Tuesday to Thursday at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, where more than 30 heads of state will be in attendance.
"Howzit, my china," is how I envision President Cyril Ramaphosa greeting his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping when the leaders meet this week for their bilateral tête-à-tête, and the BRICS summit. Topping the agenda of the much-anticipated BRICS summit in Johannesburg will be the financial vulnerability of member states, but the creation of a common currency and a new financial world order - as envisaged by China - is still a pipe dream.
