After the sentence was announced, Jernigan’s father faced Ontiveros and told him, “You murdered the only one you supposedly loved. One day Ryder is going to ask questions.”He and Marissa’s mother, Laura Jernigan, are raising Ryder. “He helped a family friend who lost a son and made sure she got a Mother’s Day card and was taken out to lunch,” Wemmert told the jury. “That’s indicative of a good person. That’s an emotional and sensitive individual who lost his way.”
