Breaking the Curse, a play about experiences of menstruation, is a co\u002Dproduction between 25th Street Theatre and Ferre Play Theatre
Walliser remembers her mother’s warm approach to the topic of menstruation and sexual health education generally — which was why it was so jarring when she learned that wasn’t the case for many of her middle school peers.
Saskatoon’s 25th Street Theatre and Ferre Play Theatre have teamed up to present Breaking the Curse by Rachel Walliser, a collection of stories about real-life experiences with menstruation. Directors Johanna Arnott, Jennifer Dawn Bishop, Erin Brophy, and Marley Duckett worked with a dozen actors to bring the collection to life. “Writing the show was because I wanted people to feel like less alone,” she said. “Because people feel quite lonely about it because of the shame associated with it.” “Your flow isn’t always the same, the colour isn’t always the same, like what products you use isn’t always the same. So of course our relationship with it isn’t always gonna stay the same,” she said.
