Mafe faces charges of housebreaking with the intent to commit arson, terrorism, theft as well as a separate arson charge relating to the fire that gutted the National Assembly Chamber at the beginning of the year. The South African Council for Educators is investigating the death of a Grade 9 pupil from PJ Simelane Secondary School in Dobsonville, Soweto. News24 previously reported that 15-year-old boy Tiro Moalusi died by suicide after he was allegedly mocked by a student teacher for being gay. On Friday, the Gauteng Education Department confirmed the probe would be launched to investigate the allegations.
Emergency services who were called to the scene told News24 the incident happened on Thursday afternoon. The protest outside Kalafong Hospital turned violent when Operation Dudula and EFF members clashed on Thursday.Police had to use stun grenades to disperse the warring factions. The incident happened at the Kei Mouth police station, a day before Women's Day, after the police officer had fetched the girl from her home, reportedly to talk about the assault case she had opened.
The DA's coalition partners in the Joburg council showed the coalition's fragility as Da Gama was voted out by 136 votes, with 132 councillors voting against it. "The suspects panicked and tried to escape, with K9 members in pursuit. After a high-speed chase, the suspects were arrested in the Nyanga precinct.
