Apologies have been issued by KK Mart and the vendor who supplied the socks.

KUALA LUMPUR – Cash registers and electronic signboards at KK Super Mart convenience stores across Malaysia have begun displaying an apology note following a blunder involving the sale of socks printed with the word “Allah”, an issue that has bumped up ethnic and political tensions in the country.

The company’s four-paragraph apology, which has been displayed at its 800 stores in the country since March 18, reads: “KK Super Mart would like to apologise to the Muslim community for the Miranosock brand’s socks bearing the word ‘Allah’.” Datuk Seri Chai placed the blame on their vendor but admitted to a lack of oversight leading to the slip-up.

KK Super Mart said it would review procurement procedures after a meeting with federal agency Jakim on March 19. The issue led to ruling Pakatan Harapan - Barisan Nasional alliance politicians trading barbs over whether KK Super Mart should be boycotted.
