A 7-year-old boy died after reportedly drowning while playing with friends at Parit 4 Canal in Parit yesterday. The Perak Tengah District Police Chief, Supt Hafezul Helmi Hamzah, said that a report on the unfortunate incident was received from the public around 5.45 pm. The victim, found about 30 meters from the canal bank, was taken to Bota Kiri Health Clinic by locals, and a medical assistant confirmed the death. The body was taken to Hospital Seri Iskandar, and around 9.30 am today, a post-mortem by a medical officer found the cause of death to be 'pulmonary edema consistent with drowning'. He advised parents to always monitor their children's movements from swimming in rivers and canals because the current is strong, especially during the Northeast Monsoon season, which is expected to continue until the end of March next year.
