The family hosted the inaugural running of the Dick Hoyt Memorial “Yes You Can” Run Together, and former Boston Bruin Zdeno Chara was among the participants.
The 5-mile race, which began and ended at the aptly-named Marathon Elementary School, was intended as a memorial for the eldest Hoyt, Dick,Related StoryRick’s racing wheelchair, adorned with photos and hydrangeas, sat at the event's starting line, and runners raced past the memorial statue of the pair, dedicated in 2013.
More than 20 “duo” teams like Dick and Rick competed in the race.These runners took off a few minutes before the rest of the pack, which included more than 600 participants. Hopkinton’s Michael Schroeder broke the tape first, finishing in 28:40, while Jacob Wyman and Brendan Aylward were the winning pair.
