KUALA LUMPUR: In the near future, Malaysian firefighters will need to maintain a Body Mass Index of 28 or below to be eligible for promotions, bringing their standards in line with those of police officers.
The minister stated that firefighters must maintain a BMI under 30 to be eligible for promotion. Exceeding this limit would disqualify them from being promoted under the ministry's policy. "That's why I advise firefighters to ensure they have a healthy body and an active mind. Make sure to run five km every day. This BMI requirement applies to all ranks. There's still room for improvement, but so far, it's under control," he told the media after officiating the Launch Ceremony of the Festive Season Preparedness Program in conjunction with Chinese New Year 2025 .
