KOTA KINABALU: An unexploded bomb from the World War II era was discovered at Kampung Lobong in Pulau Gaya near here on Friday .
Acting district police chief Supt George Rakman said the bomb was uncovered while villagers were digging a grave at the village cemetery.
A team from the Pulau Gaya police station was deployed to the scene after a distress call was received at about 5pm Friday.Supt George said the bomb was about 33cm long, with a circumference of 30cm. A bomb squad from the bomb disposal unit of the Sabah police headquarters arrived at the scene to detonate the explosive at around 9am Saturday , with the operation ending at 11.30am.Supt George thanked members of the public for sharing information that help protect the safety of the community.
