The use of Body Worn Cameras (BWC) by Malaysian police officers will have a positive impact on curbing wrongdoing and enhancing integrity, according to Comm Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad, director of the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department. The BWCs will record video and audio for up to eight hours and cannot have recordings deleted, serving as evidence of both verbal and physical actions. Their use will be mandatory while on duty, and non-compliance will be a disciplinary offense. The cameras aim to protect officers from unwarranted criticism while also deterring misconduct.
