The 14-year-old kayaker wasn't wearing a life jacket when he went under the water, police said.
According to a news release from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, a 14-year-old boy was kayaking with his 17-year-old brother on Saturday afternoon when the two began to “attempt to knock each other out of their kayak.”
The 14-year-old went under in an area with about 10-12 feet of water, the sheriff said, but reportedly didn’t know how to swim. Neither of the boys were wearing life jackets. When the 911 call was placed, the 14-year-old had already been underwater for about 10 minutes, the sheriff said.
