KOTA KINABALU: The body of a teenager who was swept away by strong waves during an outing with friends in Kuala Penyu district on Saturday (Dec 17) has been found.
The body of Ikhwan Haikal Kamis, 17, was discovered at around 6.15am, some 50m from the seashore and about 400m from where he was last seen.
State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said the body was found when firemen resumed their search operations on Sunday morning. "His body has been handed over to the police for further action and sent to the hospital for a post mortem," he said in a statement.Operations ceased at 8.05am.
In the incident, Ikhwan was swimming in the sea at Kg Tempurung, close to a resort with two other friends.His two other friends - Mohamad Hafizan, 17, and Mohamad Hafizan, 15, survived and are now being treated at the hospital.
