The body of a 21-year-old New Jersey swimmer who disappeared under the waves at a Maryland beach on Saturday was recovered the following day.
Ocean City, Maryland police and firefighters were called to a beach on 25th Street on Saturday just before 3:30 p.m. for a report a missing swimmer and began searching for him with the help of the local beach patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard, according to a statement from Ocean City.However, the following morning, at 5:43 a.m., a beachgoer called 911 to report a body in the surf and it was positively identified as the missing swimmer, Praise Ezechibueze, officials said.
The beach where Ezechibueze drowned was not guarded at the time as the city does not staff its beaches until Memorial Day weekend.
